In light of the recent refusal of Morroco to host the AFCON 2015 edition of the African Cup of Nations due to the present up-scourge of the Ebola Virus,President Goodluck Jonathan has submitted a bid for Nigeria to host the tournament.
Goodluck Jonathan made this known at the Summit for African Leaders held in Abidjan over the weekend. According to the Nigerian Head of State, ” Africa is currently undergoing a trying period which is plagued by the Ebola pestilence.
It is therefore fathomable to understand the rationale behind Morrocco’s refusal to host the African Cup of Nations next year. However, given the status quo of Nigeria as victors with respect to the Ebola situation, we are willing to take up the mantle and provide a suitable hosting ground for the tournament.”
The president’s speech was to the effect that Nigeria having overcome the Ebola Virus with her swift Containment and Isolation Policy, can replicate such skill in the event that the virus spreads during the tournament.
However, in the event that Nigeria was to eventually host the tournament, the President gave three conditions which were to be fulfilled by CAF. These are:
1) No prostitute would be allowed to come into the country during the competition.
2) The Africa Best Player of the Year Award must come to Nigeria this year.
3) Nigeria must advance to the Finals of the African Cup of Nations.
CAF is yet to release an official response to Goodluck Jonathan’s bid to host. However, an unconfirmed source inside the CAF headquaters revealed that the board was considering GEJ’s offer, and there was a slight possibility that the Football body would agree to his demands.
